I am interested in the passage of time and its effect on perception of place. Questions of historical and geological time, the animate and inanimate, permanence and transience lie at the root of my work. Moving Stills is a collection of videos in response to both historical architectural spaces as well as natural landscapes.
Made from time-lapse photographs that capture light as it passes through and animates a seemingly static space, many videos span the full length of a day, while some are instead brief segments–moments of particular appeal. In both instances, space is altered by the compressed time. The resulting scenes document the unseen processes that occur around us and to us, unaware, daily.
